This brass compass has a needle tipped with a tiny gavel that spins to display 1-5 glowing stars. 
Requires Attunement 
As an action, you can use it to detect the nearest hostile creature or unattended magic item within 1 mile. The needle points directly to it and displays stars equal to:
the target's CR (creatures) or . . .
the item’s rarity level (1 for common, 2 uncommon, 3 rare, 4 very rare, 5 legendary). 
Until the end of your next turn, you gain a bonus to your AC and Dexterity saving throws equal to the star rating (maximum +5).
Usable once per short rest.
